As I mentioned a few weeks ago, I got the Secrets of the Shoulder DVD, which begins with a thorough screen of the shoulder. One of the screens has you cross one arm over your chest, rest that hand on the opposite shoulder, and point your elbow upwards. That caused a great deal of pain in my left shoulder. Again, this was not specifically kettlebell training, as barbell overhead presses, barbell and dumbbell bench presses, and hindu push-ups had all caused pain to that shoulder.
Because an orthopedic doctor is a little pricey right now, instead I’m resting the shoulder entirely. I’m pleased to say that the shoulder is recovering nicely, and there’s no more pain in that screen. I plan to continue resting until the week starting Feb. 7. After that, it will be mostly exercises from Secrets of the Shoulder and swings; definitely no get-ups or presses yet. If pain returns, I’ll know to see a doctor. If pain doesn’t return, I will slowly add get-ups back, perhaps by getting a bell lighter than 16kb to restart. Alternatively, I might pick up KBftGU and work get-ups that way. Either way, I’ll definitely be working more closely with an RKC on the restart.
I’ll keep the forum updated with my progress, or lack thereof. Best of luck with your training, folks.
