? regarding swings/manmakers in PM…#’s goal or “all out or comfortable stop”?

I am currently repeating the PM with the "practice" of cleans, presses, snatches (12kg for presses and snatches, 16kg for getups and swings and cleans), after using the 8kg and 12kg for a few months and finally having a successful press test with the 12kg.

I did use the ETK workbook from Art of Strength as a guide previously going through the 2 programs. It especially helped me to have the ladders down on paper to tick off as I found the description in the ETK book a bit vague and hard to figure out and it helped to se it outlined on paper. The PM was outlined basically with the suggestion of # of swings and 1 min active rest, eg: 20 to start, eventually working to 50. I did find this doable and stayed with the PM until I could do 20 min on 50 swings/1 min off.

I know regarding the Manmakers Pavel seems to talk about basically ignoring numbers in the ETK book ie- working to a comfortable stop and going all out at times. I guess I was used to looking at being able to do the increasing "numbers" each week (with good swing form at all times of course ;) ) as I sign I was improving.

So, with this method, do you just go according to your perceived exertion and ability to keep good form, as signs of improvement, and naturally improving is just a given and built right in? Just feels strange with a weightlifting "sets and reps" background to not have specific numbers. BTW, I don’t seem to have a big problem with being distracted too much by the counting of reps as I have seen some others here state.

Right now I am trying sets of swings (anywhere from 15-25) at the top of each min for 12 min and slowing down and doing lesser numbers/taking a break if my form is breaking down from fatigue. Or, do others of you just swing and not count at all and go by how you feel/perform? I am just curious as to what others do and of course as said previously your indicators for improvement if you can’t state I did "X" swings today. Or, maybe I am just being anal about nothing, LOL!

Thanks.
