I’m new to kettlebell training since I decided to get my 1st kettlebell a bit over a month ago. I’m a 6′4 205lbs man with a body fat of around 14%. I got a 24kg KB avec realizing that now that I’ve graduated and found a job which will require 60+ hours a week of work, I just don’t have the same amount of time on my hands to go to the gym and grind out some fairly tedious workouts.
With regards to past strength training, I’ve followed certain protocols and saw the best results using the WS4SB from Joe DeFranco. My 1RM are far from great at the following values: BP-245, Squat – 315, DL – 355. My overhead presses have traditionally been fairly weak due to unstable shoulders caused by multiple injuries playing both hockey & football.
Here’s the thing : I started training with my kettlebell as soon as I got it and did the RKC program minimum for 4 weeks. I switched towards the Rite of Passage workout right after that and my shoulders already feel much more stable as I can go through 5 ladders and reach 4 rungs on the first 2 already. However, although I’ve been seeing progression which I assume right now are due mostly to neural adaptations, I’ve seen absolutely no change in body composition. Since I’m currently trying to keep calories down (although I don’t go as low as I could out of fear that I couldn’t recover anymore) I would have expected to lose some weight by now however this is just not happening for me. I must admit that I find this irritating because I know that by now I should have seen some change therefore I must be doing something wrong, however I don’t know what.
My long term goal is to hit 220lbs at 10% BF. Does anyone have any advice to offer, or know anyone who ever experienced this kind initial plateau? My diet might not be perfect however I try to eat lean protein 3 times a day and I snack on fruits/vegetables/nuts about twice a day on average.
I look forward to keeping up with this forum and progressing with my KB training!
Charles
