Back to the main story i was 110kg (240lb) at 6′4 focusing all my efforts on strength training, powerlifting mainly. I was practising the Westside style of lifting and my lifts were all going up which was good but i was disgustingly unfit. I could sprint and was very fast over 100m but anything more and i was toasted.I looked great with a shirt or singlet on with everything bulging in the right places but what i was hiding was a layer of fat around the waist, nothing too bad but definitely not good for a 20 year old. I was eating healthy but i was eating alot… I found eat stop eat and the warrior diet and incorporated parts into my life. Fasting once or twice a week for 24hours depending how the week went.
I decided i was going to take my football seriously this year and a month before training i switched from my powerlifting focused workouts to a Kettlebell focused one. Couple that with 1 or 2 running sessions a week and by the time pre-season had begun i was at 101-102 (220-225lb).
With the pre-season starting i was now running 3 times a week, kettlebelling twice a week and working out with regular weights once a week. after 2 months of pre-season and 1 month of my own pre preseason i am at 95kg (210lb) and theres barely any fat left on me and i can actually run without carking it after 100m.
Did I mention my vertical leap increased dramatically? before i began my pre pre-season it was at a meager 56cm and when the pre season began it climbed to 80cm+ just through a month of kettlebells, i havnt measured it again but i say after this extra 2 months id say it should be over 85cm hopefully 90cm.
I have also ordered Convict Conditioning and it arrived on christmas eve, after reading it i have incorporated bodyweight training 3 times a week into my program and daresay i will be able to 1arm pushup and 1arm handstand pushup by the end of the year, 1arm pullup might be a bit tougher but ill get there and oh i can already pistol btw
Well thats my Kettlebell journey any questions or queries feel free to ask.
