Ok to start kettlebell training with dumbbells?

I am considering the kettlebell book and/or video. I believe I read that beginners do not need to start with a kettlebell, rather just a dumbell. Is this true or should I order the kettlebell immediately?

I am not in a particular hurry since PTP [Power to the People], the Ab Pavelizer and Beyond Stretching have me sufficiently occupied.
