Right now Ive been taking a back off week every 4th week after 3 weeks of intense training. For example I deadlift on Fridays doing 8×3. So say I did 320 week 1, 320 week 2 & 325 week 3 for 8×3. Then on the 4th week Ill back off 60% Volume/Intensity. So the 4th week I will do 5×3 of 195. I got this from powerlifter54.
Now I read in Pavels BBB that he recommends waving the intensity. For example. He says if 325 is my max at 8×3 then go back 5 weeks and start a new 5 week cycle of Wk 1 – 285, Wk 2- 295, Wk 3 – 305, Wk 4 – 315 & Wk 5 – 325. If I nail 8×3 of 325 in the 5th week add 10 pounds and start over. If not do the cycle over again.
He also mentioned keeping the weight the same but reducing the volume. So instead of the 5 week cycle on my 4th week I’d do 8×1 of 325. I know eventually I would need to cut the intensity.
Im real confused on which of the 3 I should do. I feel what Im doing now for the 3 weeks Im training to close to max and Im gonna get injured or burn out. The Pavel BBB intensity wave to me makes sense but Im afraid I may lose strength or size gains because of the 1 month it takes to get to our max.
Im 36 going on 37 and realize this is important for I want to train well into my 60s & 70s.
Feedback on this would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Pete
