Has the swing been toned down ?

I have a the book Enter the Kettlebell and in the book the swing is a seemingly mild exercise that begins with the KB just behind the legs and stops around face level.

A mate has just left his book Russian Kettlebell Challenge and in that book the swing is a lot different and called a swing/snatch pull.In the swing/snatch pull the the KB is extended about a foot behind the legs at the bottom, and is carried through to a vertical finish with the arms over the head.

The Russian Kettlebell Chalenge is an older book and I don’t know if the swing has evolved or if the Swing/snatch pull is considered too dangerous.

I’ve tried both and I think I’ll alternate between sets of swings and swing/snatch pull.

Does anyone know if the Swing/snatch pull is still done ?
Is it still taught by RKC instuctors ?
