Kind of a slap in the face, especially since I’ve been training for a little over a year, thought I was following the hardstyle principles, reviewing Pavel’s ETK DVD… countless viewings of Youtube videos etc…
My main fault was bending the arms at lockout, shortening the swing arc… I was too focused on the HS lock… retracting my shoulders, engaging the lats, tightening the core, glutes etc… that I failed to notice my elbows bending a little.
Ah well… at the end of the hour though, I was swinging better, straighter arms at the top.
Back swing looked ok, (thanks to many wall squats), hip snap and lockout was improved a little.
Where I think I improved most though, was on the clean… I still have some work to do, but I feel it’s within my reach now…
One thing though, I do have some DOMS in the lower biceps, I figure from the cleans.. probably did around 60 or so with a 16,20 and 24KG bell during the hour-long session…I assume it’s normal? The power is supposed to come from the hips and legs, but there is a slight initial pull up with the armsat the right time, to help guide the bell up to rack position…
In any case, a good session… going back in 2-3 weeks after some practice on the swing, hand-2-hand swing, dead clean and swing clean.
Hopefully by then, it’ll be solid and I can get started on TGU and snatch form.
