I stayed with the PM this time around for quite a while…2 months. I chose to stick with it until I could do 10 min of getups, and do 20 swings at the top of each min for 20 min. (about a 30:30 ratio of work to rest). Then I moved onto the ROP and am in my 5th week…Sat I will attempt 5 ladders of 5 rungs, having done 4 rungs all 5 ladders last Sat with my first try for it.
I am having a hard time to know what to think of the dice roll thing this time around. I haven’t been going at the top of each minute, but just counting/resting when needed, and going by my percieved exertion as an "6/10" number vs say, 9/10 to guage my medium and heavy. Somehow, for some strange reason, this does not feel like as much "conditioning" as what I did before. I have been adding extra top of the minute swings on Tues variety days now, at a medium pace.
Does anyone here not do the dice roll and do something different? I’d really like to keep my conditioning up as well as incorporate the calorie burning aspect. Also I am finding the snatches are still winding me more than the swings. I am still doing them in sets of 5/5 or 10/10 and altering rest periods depending on how I feel and my form, but being cautious because of a (very) painful upper back/shoulder injury a year ago. Any ideas anyone for a different swing method to try? Someday I would also try to meet the goal of 200 snatches in 10 min.
Also, this may sound vain to say, but I have lost my legs. (I do come from a weightlifting background). Let’s just say I have no more quads to speak of. Although, my hamstrings are massive from swings LOL. I have been doing goblet squats, and single and double front squats, some lunges after each workout. I don’t have access to a gym, but do have barbell and dumbbells (no squat rack). Would focusing on just swings and snatches like the ETK program does give one "balance" in the legs (be not just "hip and hamstring dominant" from the hip snap but have some quad strength relative to the hammies?) Anyone else try to incorporate leg "work" and in what way? I hesitate to ask due to reading past posts on this board and in DD’s written material mocking "squatter’s chafing" LOL….I try to tell myself that function should be more important than aesthetics!
Looking forward to feedback and thoughts.
