CC and high reps in first steps

I’ve got my copy of convict conditioning a few weaks now, read the whole thing and have been rereading a lot of it.

One thing I’ve noticed is that in most cases the progressions standard of the first few steps asks for a lot of reps. I understand that it good to prepare the body and really master these steps. But I wonder what’s the point of doing 3 sets of 30 reps on the horizontal pulls ( step two of the pullups ) if I can easily do the Progression standard of step 5 & 6 ( 2 x 10 on full pullups and close pullups, I can do 2 x 15 )? I also get that it builds some strenght endurance. But if the end goal is the one arm chinup I personally think it would be better to start on step 7.

I’ve also heard other people say there are going to start with step one on al moves, but if you have been doing some of those moves for more than a year, let’s say the one legged squats then why would one start at step one to do 3 x 50 on shoulder stand squats?

What do other people think of the progressions in the book? Keeping in mind that not everybody here is a total beginner in some of these moves.

Paul also says that one should aim to perform the hardest version of the ten steps providing that: you can meet the beginners standard and a few other things (page 266)
